Tips to Increase Adsense Income

Adsense is one the best and most used ad serving network in blogosphere but to get the most out of it you must optimize adsense properly so that you can increase adsense income. Previously I've written many articles on Google AdSense and today I back with another Adsense related article and this time I will share some tips which can help you increase adsense income.

Before beginning this article please make sure that you follow all the Adsense Terms and stay away from black hat techniques to increase adsense income as this will only result in getting penalized by Adsense. Never click on your own ads just for increasing your revenue as it will cause your account getting banned and your earnings getting canceled.

So coming back to topic, below are some tips which will definitely boost your adsense income. After applying the tips let the ads running for at least a week before changing. Always compare results with old data to see progress.

Experiment With Colors & Styles

This is a great way to increase adsense income and take it to the next level. You should always try using different colors for Ad units and see which one works best for your site. There are 3 main ways of designing an Adsense unit and they are

  • Blending
  • Complementing
  • Contrasting

Blending: Blending is most common technique of designing Ad units and is used by almost every blogger. Blending means making the ad unit color and style same as the blog. This is done by making the unit background color similar to the blog background and using blog colors for ad unit Title, URL etc.

You can use this technique on your blog as it works good for many bloggers, For making the ads stand out, you can also change border colors and link colors of ad unit but still keeping the background color similar to blog's background.

Complementing: This is also a good way to design your Ad units. This is done by using blog colors for links but changing the background color (not similar to blog background), This technique works well for some and you should also try using it on your blog and see if it works for you or not.

Contrasting: This is done by contrasting ad units by using different colors and font style (not matching your blog). However I don't recommend using this technique because it could result in banner blindness but if you want you can try it and see if it works for you.

Ad Units Above The Folds

Adding AdSense units above the fold helps increase CTR and the Best way is to add a 336x280 ad unit just below the post title, You must have seen many blogs using this placement as it is one of the best working ad placement. Another way is by adding a 728x90 or 468x60 ad unit just next to your blog logo (in header section). You can also use 728x15 or 468x15 link units in your header section (near dropdown/page menu).

Here is an Adsense Heatmap (Red means High, Orange means Medium and Yellow means low). So from the above image you can understand where to place ad units to increase adsense income.

Use Both Text and Image Ads

Many bloggers make a mistake by choosing only Image Ads, As there is a myth that Image ads pays more than text ads. This is wrong, You should always choose both Image and Text for best results.

Make Use of High Performance Ad Units

It has been seen that wider ad units work more then taller ad units. The best performing ad unit sizes are:

  • 728x90 Leaderboard
  • 336x280 Large Rectangle
  • 300x250 Medium Rectangle
So you should make use of these Ad units and avoid using other sizes. You may also like to use a skyscraper unit but I personally think that skyscraper units are not well performing but it may prove good some.

Adsense for Feed and Adsense for Search

AdSense allows many other methods for monetizing which includes Ads in Feeds and Ads in Search Results. This can boost your income really fast as people most often use search box for navigation and if you are using Google Custom Search with Adsense then you might earn a few dollars from it.

Other thing is Adsense for feeds, If you have a good number of RSS Subscribers then you can earn a decent income by monetizing your feeds with adsense.
